Outlaw Strong, Online Smart: Helping Students Stay Safe Online

Posted Date: 10/08/25 (7:00 PM)

In today’s world, being smart online is just as important as being safe in our classrooms and hallways. That’s why Marlow Public Schools is focusing on being “Outlaw Strong, Online Smart” this school year. The goal is to help students from elementary through high school build healthy, responsible online habits, whether they’re gaming, scrolling, studying, or connecting with friends.

Why Online Safety Matters
Students spend a large part of their day online. According to national studies:

  • 📊 95% of teens have access to a smartphone, and nearly half say they are online “almost constantly.”

  • 🧠 1 in 3 teens reports experiencing cyberbullying.

  • 🌐 59% of U.S. teens say they’ve been contacted by a stranger online.

These numbers remind us how important it is to stay alert, protect personal information, and treat others with respect in digital spaces.

Online Safety Tips for Students
No matter your age, these simple steps can help keep you safe and smart online:

  1. Protect Your Personal Information – Never share your full name, address, passwords, or school details publicly.

  2. Think Before You Post – Once something is online, it can be permanent even if deleted.

  3. Be Kind Online – Words matter. Treat others with respect in messages, chats, and posts.

  4. Speak Up – If something feels wrong, talk to a trusted adult whether it’s a parent, teacher, or counselor.

  5. Know Your Privacy Settings – Review your social media and gaming privacy settings regularly.

Together, We’re Strong
Parents and guardians play a key role in online safety. Open conversations, setting boundaries, and staying involved can make a big difference in preventing risky online situations. By working together, we can create a culture where being safe online is second nature. Marlow students, let’s lead the way and be Outlaw Strong, Online Smart.
