Marlow Public Schools Finds Creative Solutions to Maintain Aging Bus Fleet

With the school year well underway, students at Marlow Public Schools are on the move traveling across Oklahoma for academics, athletics, and extracurricular competitions. Behind each of those trips is a dedicated team of drivers and mechanics working to keep the district’s buses running safely and efficiently.
“Safety is always our top priority,” said Superintendent Corey Holland. “Every day, our drivers and mechanics work hard to keep our students safe, no matter the age of the bus.”
Many buses in Marlow’s fleet have been serving the district for more than 15 years and have logged countless miles. Recognizing the need to stretch resources wisely, the district has taken several cost-effective steps to maintain reliability. This year, Marlow Public Schools purchased one brand-new special education bus, two used passenger buses with lower mileage, and another bus to be used for parts, helping extend the life of existing vehicles.
Additionally, the district joined a no-cost grant program that equips all buses with Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) capabilities to improve fuel efficiency, power, and lifespan while reducing emissions.
“We are proud of the creative steps we’re taking to be good stewards of our resources,” Holland said. “But the reality is, as our buses continue to age, we’ll need to invest in new vehicles to keep our students safe and our routes reliable for years to come.”
Marlow Public Schools remains committed to doing everything possible to ensure safe and dependable transportation for all students.
